Volunteering with Cycling Nova Scotia
Cycling Nova Scotia is a non-profit organization that runs on the power of volunteers. Our Board of Directors manages the overview of the organization but each of Board members are tasked with putting together committees to help them in their work.
If you would like to help out with CNS, we would be happy to have you join us. We are currently in need of volunteers with the following talents or interests:
- Graphic Design
- Writing
- Children and youth coaching
- Race marshalling and officiating
- Website or app development
- Event volunteers
- Committee participants
There are a number of different segments of the cycling world that CNS covers, so choose whichever one interests you the most. We encourage you to get in touch with any of our friendly VPs to learn more about committee work and the commitments involved. (Please note that you need to be a CNS member to join a committee. If you aren’t one yet, you can sign up here!)
We also hear about other cycling events and related organizations that might need volunteers from time to time. We will do our best to post these here on the site as well.
If you’re interested in volunteering in any capacity with CNS, please contact [email protected] today!
Here are some of our committees: (To help and/or get involved, please don’t hesitate to contact us.)
REBA: Road Education & Bikeways Advocacy / Rec & Touring
This is a committee that strives to improve and advance our cycling infrastructure in Nova Scotia. As part of this mandate, this committee is also looking at recreational cycling, educating cyclists at all levels about cycling safety, and how to promote bike tourism in the province.
BMX
This committee is focused on how to develop the BMX community in the province. They are looking at putting on more events, raising awareness, and developing BMX and Freestyle infrastructure.
Mountain Biking Competition
This committee focuses on how to promote and encourage more mountain bike racing in Nova Scotia. It is a rich, competitive environment out there, but there is a lot of work to do to maintain the current levels and to advance the sport.
Road Competition
The road racing scene in Nova Scotia is alive and well, but there is always work to do. The race season is upon us and we could use your energy and skills.
Coaching
We have some incredible competitive athletes in this province that work hard every year to stay ahead in the field. Any good athlete needs a good coach and this committee is committed to help in this development.
Mountain Bike Trails & Off-Road Advocacy
We have some incredible mountain biking in Nova Scotia, but a lot of the trail riding is not sanctioned and is therefore not properly maintained and permission of the trails is not secured. This committee works hard to develop partnerships in order to responsibly develop the mountain biking scene in the province.
Marketing Committee
Being able to cycle –whether for fun, fitness or competition– should be something that is accessible and enjoyable by everyone. The Marketing Committee is interested in increasing the profile of cycling, and trying to turn as many Nova Scotian into their own Weekend Warriors, or cycling athletes!
