Cycling Nova Scotia and the Coal Town Trail Association, in partnership with the Nova Scotia
Department of Public Works, and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, is proud to share that
a 34-kilometre section of the Blue Route Provincial Cycling Network between Glace Bay,
Dominion, and Sydney will be opening in July 2026. After a planned opening in 2025 was
curtailed due to woods closure we are very excited to have another attempt.

The Blue Route Cycling Network is a project of Cycling Nova Scotia and the NS Department of
Public Works and aims to create a 3,000km province-wide network of continuous cycling
infrastructure. With over 500km already designated, and using a comprehensive wayfinding
system, we are well on our way to connecting Nova Scotians across the province to world-class
cycling destinations. The Blue Route aims not only to provide scenic cycling routes, but also to
offer local alternate forms of transportation and contribute to provincial environmental goals.
This new section of the Blue Route will incorporate existing infrastructure, including the beautiful
Coal Town Trail, Maryann Corbett Trail, along with on-road sections along Seaside Rd, Gardiner
Rd, Wilson Road and Sydney Road. They will be connected and marked with a system of Blue
Route signage to highlight to locals and visitors that this is a safe and accessible cycling route.

We will be sharing details of an opening event in Glace Bay in the coming weeks, so keep a
look out!
